Hey All,
Time has flown as I am now entering the last two weeks of my
internship at CONAN. It will be hard to
say goodbye to everyone I have met this summer but I am also looking forward to
the starting my junior year. My
experience at U of M has been helpful in preparing me for my internship in many
ways. I think the most important thing U
of M has instilled in me is having a great work ethic, taking initiative, and
demonstrating leadership. Also, as much
as I hate to admit it all of those group projects I have completed over the
past two years have really taught me how to work with people in a professional
setting and the challenges that arise when working as a team.
I think the liberal arts education that I am getting at U of
M has made me a well-rounded person in general which is helpful in an industry
where you never know what area or what projects you will be working on
next.
I have been most surprised at my internship by the immense
amount of responsibility I have been given as just an intern. This past week I had the opportunity to cover
the desk of the assistant to our Executive Producer. While at first I was a little intimidated by
the task, it ended up being a great experience and I really felt like I was
contributing to the show.
Another surprising thing I have learned is how many amazing
connections you make while working on a TV show. As a lot of the crew work other jobs than
CONAN they can be really helpful in setting up the interns with freelance
work. I was fortunate enough this past
weekend to work as a talent escort at the Teen Choice Awards where I was the
talent escort for 17 of Demi Lovato’s dancers. While it was hard to keep track
of everyone for the entire day I kept a running list to make sure that everyone
made it back to the dressing room before the top of the show.
I am excited for what the last week has in store and am
really going to miss all of the people I have gotten to know over the past few
months.
Best,
Kathleen
