Zac Brown Band

Clear Channel Channel Media is in charge of the promotions department for Kiss 108, Jamn' 94.5, and the new Boston Country Station, 101.7 The Bull.  Because The Bull is a new station, the street team has not yet made any appearances at country concerts.  The first concert they planned to "work" was the Zac Brown Band concert.  The band was performing at Fenway Park.  I am huge fan of country music, so I was beyond excited when my bossed asked if I was interested in joining the street team at their promotions event at Game On, a popular bar right next to Fenway.

Another intern named Armin and myself accompanied the street team in the company vehicles to Game On.  The goal of the Street Team is to promote our station as much as possible to the public.  There are many different methods of promotion.  One pair of team members had one person dress up in a Bull costume, and the other parade "The Bull" around the streets of Fenway, taking pictures with fans for our website (more promotion).  Another pair was stationed by the train stop, a very populated area, handing out merchandise such as koozies, posters, t shirts, and more.

My group was inside Game On, at a table set up in the downstairs area positioned next to a DJ Booth also sponsored by the Bull.  I was in charge of the table and the raffle.  People would approach the table, ask what it was all about, and I would let them know that by  entering their name in the raffle they had the chance to win free tickets to the concert that night, ticket upgrades, and also a chance to win Red Sox tickets.  Another promotional event I would tell the fans about is that if they took their 101.7 The Bull poster into the concert and waved it around like crazy during the show, and one of our secret team members sees them with the poster, they may be a lucky recipient of a ticket upgrade to the front section.  This really got people going.

It was really special for me to be able to experience a street team event such as this one.  I found out that it is really important to be personable and full of energy at all times, for people retain the image of you and associate it with the radio station from then on.  When we are out there handing out t-shirts and koozies, it is ultimately about the bigger picture and how people remember the Bull, and making sure their take away is positive.

  1. It's great that you can see the bigger picture. I don't know if I would have the people skills or the energy to hand that stuff out and stay personable. Good job!
