Looking Back: SoulCycle

As I approach the end of my internship, I have come to understand certain things about my environment, education and experience that I didn't notice before. As a freshman, I thought that most of my 100 level classes were insignificant and would not help much in the workplace. However, now that I have spent a few weeks at SoulCycle working on social media and editorials, I realize that two classes have significantly impacted my experience.

The first class Comm 101, is beneficial because I came into the job understanding the effect of social media on various communities. By applying this knowledge to various social media platforms, I was able to most effectively target a certain consumer. Additionally, on the editorial end of the internship, I used skills learned in Writing 200. This class focused on creating blog posts reflecting certain changes in society based on new technology. Because I had composed numerous blog posts in this class, it was easier for me to come up with ideas for the Soul blog and contribute to the community page without needing  assistance or guidance.

Although I had a basic understanding of my responsibilities as an intern, I was given a few tasks that were both challenging and exciting. One of the most beneficial experiences I had was being on set of a photo shoot and being able to contribute to the outfit choices, props and pictures. I  never had the chance to be on any sets and so this was both new and scary. However, my boss made me feel comfortable, asking my opinion and always considering what I had to say. Even though I was nervous at first, I started to get a feel for the environment and began interacting with the photographer, set manager and models. Below Iare some photos from the shoot!

  1. I was able to apply several lessons from COMM 101 to my internship as well! I truly felt that understanding how consumers react to certain messages in the media, helped me to reach and connect to a greater audience as well. So great that you were able to apply your Wolverine education to your internship. Also that is so cool you got to help out on a photo shoot! Way to go

  3. It is so cool that you worked on a photo shoot and you were able to freely voice your opinion. I am a Comm major and I agree that the classes help with understand social media and societal differences.
