Week 2: SoulCycle

At SoulCycle everyone works together as a team, even if their departments seem to be completely distinct from the other. In order for everything to get done and be promoted in the right manner, my team (social media) must publicize different rides, corporate and fundraising events, new and discounted retail and sign-ups. Because of this I think that every member of every team must be conscious of the other departments and communicate in an effective manner.

While there are many different departments and numerous people in each of this departments, I have definitely seen certain employees take a more aggressive and mentoring role in the company. The two owners of the company, Julie and Elizabeth have come to the forefront as the major "decision makers". They are both very established in their positions at the company and know almost everyone on the floor and in the studios. They have distinguished themselves as  company leaders, taking charge of a problem when someone else isn't there to fix it.

Other than these two woman, I would have to say that the person I look up to the most in the company and especially in the marketing field is the head of the marketing team, Spencer. Fairly new to SoulCycle, Spencer is ironically the owner (Julie's) husband. Even though he only started working for Soul nine moths ago, Spencer has a handle on the creative and promotional concepts that the company wishes to extend to it's riders. Having worked for a marketing company before, he is aware of the various methods SoulCycle can use to as he says "put butts on bikes". I instantly connected with his easy-going nature and welcoming attitude and began to look to him for advice and guidance.

One of my favorite tasks is promotional brainstorming, where Abby (my boss), Spencer and I get together in a room and think about ways to promote an instructor, a new concept or an event. It is amazing how Spencer comes up with ideas in such a methodical yet creative manner with no hesitance or second-guessing. After working with both Spencer and Abby, it has become quite evident that in order to be in the marketing field you must be both creative and organized. They have  taught me to appreciate a small idea, because after some time and brainstorming, the idea may turn into something much larger and more effective.

  1. This looks like a very cool place to work. Can you give an example o the kind of brainstorming you'll be doing? Like what kinds of topics exactly.
