Obviously, there are plenty of ways that
UofM has shaped me in a positive way. Many times my Michigan education comes
into conversation when my colleagues would ask me about what I was interested
in studying. For a majority of my freshman year I had no clue what I wanted to
focus on. But the benefits a liberal arts education was that I was able to take
many exploratory classes and a very wide range of subjects. First semester I
took the typical Psych 111 and Stats 250 massive lecture classes. But I also
took French and Art History 271, which were much smaller and focused classes. I
learned that Art History was not my thing and neither was psychology.
Second
semester, I again took some standard freshman classes like English 125, Comm
102, and continued my proficiency in French. However to fill my science
requirements I took Astro 101. I figured that astronomy was not a career I was
going to pursue. I was correct because I hated the class but I learned from
that. I also was able to realize how much I preferred my Communication class.
Consequently, I searched for an internship related to Communication studies,
which lead me to Burke.
Even
though I had to complete semesters with some classes that I hated I was able to
easily compare them to my other classes and realize where my strengths truly
lie.
Sounds like al the classes Uof M offered really helped you throughout your internship. I'm glad you learned a lot and were able to use your knowledge towards real life scenarios. Hope you enjoyed your internship!
